The Vortex\u00ae Quick Clean Gate\u2122 offers unique features and many distinct advantages over typical butterfly valves, pinch valves, ball valves, and slide gates used in sanitary applications. \u2022 Alternative slide gates and other valves can be problematic if they cannot be readily disassembled and sanitized. If materials accumulate on a valve\u2019s sealing surfaces, cross-contamination, spoilage, and bacterial growth can occur. The Quick Clean Gate\u2019s ability to be \u201ccleaned out of place\u201d ensures product safety and quality. \u2022 The Quick Clean Gate is specifically designed to speed up the sanitation process, significantly reducing downtime. The Quick Clean Gate\u2019s compression coupling connections and its press-lock latches allow for quick disassembly, sanitation, and reassembly without tools. \u2022 Many alternative slide gates have open cavities where materials can become lodged and prevent a positive shut-off of the material flow. Lodged materials can also cause seal wear and material degradation, and lead to the gate seizing up and binding. Trapped materials also pose a risk of cross-contamination and spoilage. To prevent material buildup and ensure positive gate closure, such cavities have been eliminated from the Quick Clean Gate\u2019s design. The Quick Clean Gate is designed to mechanically clear materials away from the sealing surfaces with each opening stroke. This ensures that trapped materials are forced back out of the seals and discharged into the process line, rather than becoming packed into the seals and causing actuation and\/or contamination issues. \u2022 A butterfly valve\u2019s rotating disc is directly exposed to the material flow, which causes wear on the disc itself. This can result in contamination from foreign metal fragments. The exposed disc also obstructs material flow as it passes through the valve, which can cause line blockages and other maintenance issues. To resolve these issues, the Quick Clean Gate\u2019s sliding blade is machined with an unobstructed, full-bore orifice that allows unrestricted material flow. \u2022 Alternative slide gates and butterfly valves can significantly shear materials as a result of jamming and grinding materials into the seals. Sheared materials cause seal wear, material degradation, and compromised product quality. Sheared materials may also become wedged in the seals, causing the gate to seize and bind. To address these issues, the Quick Clean Gate\u2019s \u201cscissoring\u201d action tapers off the material flow as the gate closes.
