Distributed controllers are used for machines with a distributed architecture and for production line machines with limited space. By relocating control functions to individual stations, you can troubleshoot faults without bringing the plant to a standstill, thereby increasing availability. They combine the advantages of a SIMATIC S7-1500 with the design of a SIMATIC ET 200 IO system.

Distributed controllers can be mounted directly on the machine in small control boxes or, in the case of the ET 200pro, without them. In networked plants, the connection to a production line’s central control cabinet is established via PROFINET. Transferring data from the central control cabinet to distributed controllers at the individual stations improves overall availability.

The compact ET 200SP CPU distributed controllers are the perfect solution for standard and fail-safe applications, especially for machines with distributed intelligence or production lines with limited space.

For applications outside a control cabinet (IP 65/67), the SIMATIC ET 200pro system is ideal. Available as standard and failsafe controllers, this system can be mounted directly at the machine level—for example, on a conveyor belt rack.
